Two-Tiered Academic Designation
Baylor University offers two options for students interested in law school: Pre-Law Designation and Pre-Law Interest.
While the titles are different, there is no practical difference in terms of access. Regardless of which option you select, you will have full access to all resources, support, and opportunities offered by the Pre-Law Program.
This two-track format was created to help build a more focused, higher-achieving cohort of pre-law students. By setting a minimum academic standard for the Pre-Law Designation, the Pre-Law Program is able to:
- Encourage students to realistically evaluate the viability of pursuing law school
- Provide an academic early warning mechanism for students who may benefit from additional support or reassessment of their goals
In addition, many academic departments at Baylor University offer law-related tracks and pathways within their degree programs, giving students further opportunities to shape their undergraduate experience around their legal interests.
The Pre-Law Designation signals your interest in law school to academic advisors and ensures you receive relevant updates, resources, and event invitations from the Pre-Law Program. To add the Pre-Law Designation, contact your academic advisor.
After completing 24 Baylor credit hours, you must maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA to retain the designation.
If you are still exploring the possibility of law school, or if your GPA falls below a 3.2 after completing 24 Baylor credit hours, you will continue as a Pre-Law Interest student.
Once a student transitions to Pre-Law Interest status, they cannot regain the Pre-Law Designation.
